Mary
& Bobby Black first established an Estate Agency in Bosham in 1969
trading as Anthony Gwilt. Their son
Anthony ('Tony', seen left) whom the business was named after (with his
Grandmother Kezia Newport-Gwilt) gained experience of
the business and then worked for one of the largest agencies in
Oxfordshire where he soon owned his own offices (the first Anthony
Black & Co. in 1981).
The Anthony Black team pride themselves
in offering the highest levels of service with the utmost integrity. Tony
has a great deal of experience and more than 45 years of local knowledge. |

Bosham is a beautiful place.
Four generations of my family have been fortunate to live here. It's
a great place to visit and you'll find the locals very friendly. We have plenty of accommodation,
pubs and sports facilities including cricket and football grounds,
Bowling, Sailing and many Clubs and Societies. Bosham stands on a small
peninsula between two tidal creeks at the eastern end of Chichester
harbour. Bosham is also thought to be the burial site of the last Saxon
kings of England and the place where King Canute "turned" back the tide.
His daughter is buried in the Church.
The Village
comprises the old original part with the harbour, a large private
estate known as
Bosham Hoe and a more recent area with newer Bosham properties known
as Broadbridge. As well as providing an excellent sanctuary for migrating
wildfowl it is a wonderful centre for sailing with literally hundreds of
moorings for boats and yachts. Artists, walkers and weekenders love the
place and year round it draws visitors like a magnet, particularly those
with a sense of history.
In the days of Alfred the Great, Bosham was a flourishing port with a
fine church and rich monastery; but in those days the Sussex coast was
frequently attacked by bands of Viking raiders. One day a Viking ship
was sighted making for Bosham harbour and, at this, not only the farmers
and fishermen but even the priests and monks fled inland, taking with
them whatever valuables they could carry away and abandoning the rest of
their goods to fate. So it happened that when the raiders landed they
found the church undefended and were able to carry off the great tenor
bell, the finest in the whole peal. They lashed it to the cross-benches
of their ship and set sail, delighted with their prize.
